A new bar and grill is opening in a historic building in Toronto

One of Toronto’s most historic buildings is becoming home to a new restaurant this week.
The Dineen Building will now house The Frederick, a new bar and restaurant that’s a sibling of seafood spot The Chase that’s been in the same building for years. The history of the impressive corner building stretches back to 1897.
The restaurant is being helmed by chef Cory Vitiello, who is also behind Chase, but Frederick describes itself as more “relaxed” and “easygoing” than Chase.
The menu is divided somewhat unconventionally into shareables, salads, pastas, house specialties, “classics,” sides and dessert. For shareables, think fried chicken, tuna tartare, spinach artichoke dip and shrimp cocktail, and a lineup of traditional salads consists of a Green Goddess, Caesar and Shrimp Louie.
The classics are more along the lines of a burger, lobster roll and crab cake, whereas the house specialties are even heartier dishes like steak au poivre, miso glazed salmon and a roasted half chicken. Complete the picture with sides like beans and parmesan fries.
Desserts aren’t an afterthought, with house soft serve and a made-to-order chocolate cake on the menu.
The Frederick opens at 10 Temperance St. on Sept. 9.
