Toronto is getting a big Hungarian festival to kick off the summer, and it’s going to involve all kinds of cultural performances and food.

HungaroFest will be happening at Yonge-Dundas Square in the heart of the city. There will be Hungarian folk, classical and contemporary music and Hungarian food and dancing, and admission will be totally free.

Music acts will include folk groups Gyanta Hungarian Folk Band and Csángo Unchained, retro disco music performer Gyula Jager, young pop-rock band 4S Street, Lilla Polyák and the Random Company who will play Hungarian hits from the 60s through to the 2000s, and Queen tribute band Don’t Stop The Queen from Hungary.

Dance acts will include Kodály Ensemble, the Rozmaring Folk Dance Ensemble and Kossuth Tancosok, who are all dedicated to preserving and performing traditional dance.

Traditional Hungarian foods will be available to try, like Hungarian crepes, Hungarian schnitzel and goulash. There will also be foods like chimney cakes, a hollow, tube-shaped cake roasted over charcoal for a caramelized crust, as well as pleskavica, a grilled Serbian dish that blends spiced minced pork, beef and lamb. And you don’t want to miss lángos, a Hungarian street food of deep-fried flatbread topped with garlic, sour cream and cheese.

Food will be provided by vendors Goulash Kitchen, Budapest Restaurant, Bacska-Banat Hungarian Circle, Orbán Balázs Társaság and Hungarian National Association of Mangalica Breeders (Mangalica is a type of Hungarian furry pig).

HungaroFest is taking place on June 1.
