A devastating fire has unfortunately hit a local Ontario business which just so happens to depend on this time of year the most for their profits: a sweets shop.

Bruce County Nut & Fudge took to social media to share the sad news with their customers, followers and local community, updating everyone on the heartbreaking events that had occurred.

“This past week brought a challenge we never expected,” a social media post from the business said.

“We saw smoke and that smoke turned into a fire that swept through our second home: our office and production facility.”

Thankfully, the Bruce County Nut & Fudge team was safe after the fire. However production was impacted at a crucial time of year for the small local business.

Bruce County Nut & Fudge is a beloved local family-run small business that was started in 2002 by three sisters. They were originally inspired by their parents who started up a successful sweets business of their own.

The business let people know that they worked hard to be able to make it to the One of a Kind Christmas Show that was held at the Enercare Centre in Toronto from Nov. 27 to Dec. 7.

“We started the day with broken hearts, but thankfully we are safe, and our collective spirit helped us find the space, supplies and the passion to stock our shelves at the One of a Kind Show in Toronto, just a few days later,” they said.

A social media post published on Dec. 5, said production has now resumed. An even they weren’t able to attend was sadly the Butterdome event in Edmonton this year.

“We need the extra time and energy to stay home and keep moving forward with our online shop,” the post said.

“With determination and of course, a sprinkle of holiday magic, we’re doing our best to deliver the handcrafted treats that are part of our holiday tradition and more importantly, yours. Thank you for your patience and support and know we’re always hard at work to make your holiday sweeter than ever.”

Their post from Dec. 5 has nearly 300 likes and nearly 100 comments on Instagram from people who are cheering the business on through this difficult holiday season that’s brought some unexpected challenges that have made things harder for Bruce County Nut & Fudge this year. Many of the posts were from other small businesses as well as caring community members.
