A new Indian restaurant has just swung open its doors in Toronto, and they’re already bringing the flavour when it comes to one of the city’s favourite cuisines.

The Jalsa specializes in curries and tandoori dishes, but when it comes to flexing their prowess in the art of cooking Indian cuisine, they certainly don’t stop there.

Many Indian restaurants offer many options for vegetarian cuisine, but the best part about The Jalsa is they might have even more options for those who don’t eat meat with a range of plant-based soya chaap dishes.

Their menu starts off with a selection of snacks and chaat, including favourites and classics like samosa chaat and chana bhatura. They also offer masala fries tossed in their own signature spice blend for a twist on tradition.

From there, the appetizers take a left turn into Hakka cuisine, closely related to Indian food. They’ve got all the iconic dishes including chili chicken, momos, Hakka noodles, fried rice and vegetable Manchurian.

If you’re looking for appetizers from the tandoor, they have a wide selection of those too, with various tandoori preparations of chicken, fish, veggies and paneer. They even offer momos and soy protein that’s been cooked in the tandoor.

Their main courses are mostly focused on curry dishes, with the typical range of meat and vegetarian options. They’re serving curries with chicken, mutton, veggies, paneer, including many with their soya chaap, a protein you might not find everywhere.

Soya chaap is made using soybean and wheat flour that’s kneaded and boiled, resulting in a tender, almost meat-like texture.

They also have plenty of cocktails, mocktails, beer, wine and spirits to wash everything down. They’re serving a Tequila Sunrise, Bloody Mary and an Old Fashioned along with a couple fruity signature cocktails.
