It’s already August and summer won’t last forever, so those who are trying to wrap up the season in style should be sure to check out everything happening in Mississauga’s beautiful Port Credit neighbourhood.

The waterfront community is continuing its yearly tradition of having some of the best summer events in the city to complement their selection of popular restaurants, boutique shops, and gorgeous views of the lake.

The festivities include a weekly Farmers Market, weekly cultural celebrations in the Port Street Market, family-friendly movie nights, summer concerts, the return of their popular Classic Cars Thursdays, Buskerfest, and the Southside Shuffle – there’s something for everyone to enjoy this summer at Port Credit!

Here’s what’s happening #INThePort and when:

Port Credit Farmers Market

One of the city’s most beloved farmers markets in Mississauga, the Port Credit Farmers Market, features local, sustainable produce, unique artisan products, and some treats for the entire family… including the pups.

Enjoy a great selection of fresh produce, cheese, eggs, baked goods, food and beverages, artisanal fare, and live music! The Port Credit Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. until October 7, 2023.

Summer Fun at the Port Street Market

You don’t need to travel the world to explore other cultures – everyone’s invited to experience new cultural festivities with the Port Street Market. The market features a different culture every weekend, with activities including Bollywood and Latin dancing, buskers, carnival games, puppetry, and more. Performances will run every Saturday and Sunday starting at 2 p.m.

August 19-20: BuskerFest and BuskerBop

Enjoy some of the world’s best circus performers at BuskerFest, where you’ll find incredible feats of strength, skill and danger. This year the event is joined by BuskerBop, where entertainer DJ Busk will keep the kids dancing with an interactive program of music and silly fun. International statue artist Blanco “the Human Canvas” will become a colourful masterpiece as he’s painted by guests, and for the very first time, magician Mark Lewis will join the cast to delight and awe. There’s also face painting, balloon artists, stilt walkers and more!

August 26-27: Bollywood Dance School

Led under the artistic direction of Parth Dani, a veteran of the industry with over 20 years of experience, this Canadian dance company finds its voice by combining both their South Asian and Canadian roots. With a mission to bring their cultural experiences to the stage, Bollywood Dance School specializes in fusion pieces that have roots in traditional Bollywood, semi-classical alongside western disciplines!

September 2-3: Puppet Party – Crane Creations

How does a rabbit hop? How does a bird fly? And what happens when forest animals find a mirror? The rabbit is convinced it’s their picture, and the squirrel is certain it’s theirs. You’re invited to help untangle this mystery! Sing along and move with Crane Creations Theatre Company and their adorable puppets.

Movie Nights in the Park

Enjoy fun, family-friendly movies under the night sky on Friday evenings at 9 p.m. at Port Credit Memorial Park. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on, as well as food and refreshments (or you can purchase popcorn, drinks and other snacks at the park).

Summer Concert Series at Port Credit Memorial Park

For those who want to get moving to the music at a free summer concert, you’re in luck – Port Credit Memorial Park is one of three locations for Mississauga’s Summer Concert Series. On Sunday evenings, enjoy an outdoor concert where popular local bands and musicians will perform in genres ranging from catchy pop to heart-pumping rock to smooth jazz.

  • August 27: Heather Christine Quintet with special guest Matt Zaddy
  • September 3: Jay Boehmer Trio & Friends

Classic Cars Thursdays

Good news for lovers of old cars and all things vintage: Classic Cars Thursdays are returning in August! Every Thursday throughout the month, a variety of vintage car models will line Lakeshore Road in Port Credit. Enjoy the sights and the sounds of live music and entertainment as you stroll down Lakeshore Road on Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Southside Shuffle

Get into the groove when the 25th Annual Port Credit Blues and Jazz Festival returns to Port Credit Memorial Park. This year the Southside Shuffle features some of the biggest Canadian groups and performers in the genre, including David Wilcox, Matt Andersen, the legendary Downchild Blues Band, and many more. There’s something for everyone to enjoy at this massive musical festival!

While you’re in the community, be sure to check out some of the popular restaurants and businesses that call Port Credit home. Foodies have a ton of options including authentic cuisine from different cultures, cafes, bars, bakeries, and ice cream shops – and many places have opened their patios for the summer.

Port Credit’s boutique shops offer everything from fashion and beauty to health and wellness, making it one of the city’s best places to shop and support local businesses.

With so much to see and do in this gorgeous walkable community on the waterfront, Port Credit is a treat to enjoy, whether you’re a tourist or a Mississauga resident looking for a perfect “staycation” getaway.
