A custom drink or “dirty soda” typically means a drink with a pop base with added flavoured syrups, fruit juices or cream. The drink reportedly originated in the Mormon community in Utah. The faith’s dietary restrictions led to the development of cold non-alcoholic mixed drinks.

Chain dirty soda shops popped up in Utah starting in 2010.

FiiZ was born in Bountiful, Utah, in 2014, according to the company’s website. Two Utah families came together over a love of creating specialty sodas and bringing a modernized 1950s soda shop hangout to their local community.

There are now more than 70 locations in the United States.

FiiZ offers personalized drinks along with a selection of savoury snacks and sweet treats.

The custom drinks start with a fizzy base like Sprite, Coke or root beer and then the customer can add flavoured syrups like coconut or vanilla, topped with a splash of cream.

The menu also includes FiiZ’s creative concoctions such as the “Razzbear”, a mix of vanilla, raspberry puree and cream.

There are also energy drink mixes and health hydration drinks.
