Toronto's 'Best Taco' winner opens new spot downtown

Reigning champions of Toronto’s 2025 Taco Fest, Birria Catrina has just opened its doors in the high-energy area of Kensington Market downtown.

Known for their tacos loaded with savory slow-cooked meats, the franchise has been making waves over the last few years with locations on both Yonge St. and in Roncesvalles.

This new location, now bringing the heat to Kensington, comes complete with a front patio for the remaining warmer weeks, and for when things cool down, a massive menu built on piping hot and flavourful birria — slow-braised tender beef in a rich consommé.

Foundational menu items include their standard birria tacos, birria torta, and even a huge bowl of birria ramen for when the snow hits.

Birria Catrina’s new location is on the main drag of Kensington, located at 267 Augusta Ave, and is a welcome new player in the neighbourhood’s competitively delicious food scene.
