A Toronto community has earned a top spot on a prestigious list of global neighbourhoods.
Time Out’s “39 Coolest Neighbourhoods” left no stone unturned as it delved into rich and storied neighbourhoods ranging from New York to Helsinki and Shanghai.
In fact, it seemed like every major city earned a stripe or two, as they showcased vibrant areas with some of the best food, atmosphere, and people.
Using that as a rubric, it should come as no surprise that Toronto’s very own Davenport earned a spot on the list.
Highlighting its industrial backdrop, Time Out focused on how the neighbourhood, just anchored off Geary Avenue, is like nowhere else in Toronto.
Restaurants on the list include the ever-popular General Public and Famiglia Baldassarre.
Beyond its culinary edge, Davenport also features numerous maker spaces and craftspeople who run shops out of the area, making it stand out against the backdrop of Canada’s busiest — and most competitive — city.
Casson Hardware earned a mention for its reputation for featuring female or femme-presenting craftspeople, as well as Uma Nota Culture’s Geary Art Walk, an annual celebration showcasing the artistic excellence of the area.
Time Out’s shoutout to Davenport didn’t just stop at giving businesses honourable mentions, as they even went as far as to provide the blueprints for a perfect day in the neighborhood.
Stops along the way included grabbing a drink and a scone at Balzac’s Powerhouse, seeing what’s on display at Cardinal Gallery, and grabbing a falafel at Parallel Brothers or a slice at North of Brooklyn Pizza.
Close off the night with a couple of beers at Blood Brothers Brewery and some dancing at Standard Time, and you have the makings for what Time Out deems a perfect day in the place-to-be in Toronto.
