Toronto’s most iconic landmark is putting on a giant show for its 50th anniversary.
The CN Tower, this city’s iconic monument that has been dominating the skyline since 1976, officially opened 50 years ago to the day.
Standing at 1,815.5 feet tall, the staggering monolith was completed on June 26, five decades ago, much to the celebration of the city and the world, as it, for a time, held the record for the tallest building ever constructed.
Over the years, the CN Tower went on to receive additions almost as iconic as the structure itself, including the rotating 360 Restaurant with views of southern Ontario, the glass floor exhibition, where people can feel a bit more down to earth (literally), and, for the brave, the EdgeWalk, which allows guests a stroll on the tower’s exterior — at the tippy top.
🎉 Tonight, the celebration lights up the skyline. 🎉

To celebrate its rich history of watching Toronto grow into a world-class city unlike any other, the tower will “shine like never before, with a special light show featuring swirling colours,” according to representatives behind the monument.
The light show is anticipated to run all night, so no matter where you are in the GTA, you’ll be in for a treat.
