Teen psychodrama meets horror in new Netflix series set to film this fall in Ontario

If twisted teen tales with a dose of horror are your thing, you’ll want to add this to your future watch list. Netflix is gearing up to film a new series in Ontario this fall that blends girlhood, hysteria and religious symbolism into one unsettling ride.

The Body is an eight-episode series created by Emmy-nominated (Under the Bridge) writer-director Quinn Shephard, who calls it her “most personal” project to date.

Shephard describes the series as “a love letter to all the ’90s and Y2K teen movies and erotic thrillers” she grew up watching. “Movies like Carrie, Jennifer’s Body, Heavenly Creatures, and even Mean Girls were all inspirations, but with a grounded lens,” she told Tudum.com, noting that she also had “an embarrassingly intense fixation on The Crucible and the Salem witch trials” as a teen.

“This story is definitely my way of putting a playful spin on all the nightmares of my own teenage-dom,” Shephard said, adding that the show’s tone is “gritty camp” with “a dash of Catholic horror.”

The plot centres around a group of rebellious Catholic schoolgirls whose dance team initiation goes awry, triggering prophetic visions that spiral into mass chaos across their town.

Emmy nominee Riley Keough (Under the Bridge) reunites with Shephard as an executive producer. She’s joined by Gina Gammell (War Pony), Sacha Ben Harroche (Sound of Metal), Amy Israel (American Rust), Peter Chernin (The Greatest Showman), and Josh Stern (The Good Nurse).

Filming is scheduled to run from Sept. 29, 2025, to Feb. 6, 2026, under Cold Dish Productions. While specific filming locations remain under wraps, shooting will take place in parts of Ontario.

If you’re wondering who might bring these characters to life, you’ll have to sit tight as the cast hasn’t been revealed, with no word yet on when the series will premiere on the streaming platform.
