Sprawling festival coming to Toronto's iconic waterfront

A huge festival is coming to Toronto’s iconic waterfront.

The Water/Fall festival is scheduled to stagger its celebrations throughout the coming weeks, with festival dates in both September and October.

Representatives with the event have stated that this harvest festival by the water will include art installations, food and drink vendors, live performances, and even boat tours.

Highlights at the months-long event include A Lake Story, a public art performance featuring 100 canoes, Water Wonders, a massive 3D floating art piece, and a full music garden.

“These partners are bringing artists, performers, local businesses, and communities together to shine a light on the city’s incredible creativity and diversity with free, family-friendly, and sustainable programming,” said Tim Kocur, Executive Director for The Waterfront BIA, in an official statement.

Spanning the entirety of the waterfront area and taking place over several weekends, it should come as no surprise that the programming does not stop there, as the ‘copper canopy,’ a large-scale public art exhibit, will hang over attendees during the festival’s duration.

This suspended display imitates a forest canopy, and beyond that, responds to its surroundings, as it shifts with the light, winds, and movement of people passing beneath.

“[The] festival will showcase Toronto’s waterfront as a vibrant cultural hub, highlighting the vital role our waterfront plays in connecting people, culture and nature,” added Kocur.

The Water/Fall festival is scheduled to take place on Sept. 27 and 28, and Oct 4 and 5.
