A hot chicken restaurant, which has grabbed headlines in Toronto, is opening a location in Mississauga.

THG’s Hot Chicken started as a Toronto food truck by Chef Aleem Syed with the help of family and good friends in 2011.

Its popularity grew and in 2022, THG expanded into its first brick-and-mortar store at 4830 Sheppard Ave. E., Scarborough.

And now Syed announced plans to open a location in Mississauga at 4099 Erin Mills Parkway, in the plaza just south of Highway 403.

Syed is a classically-trained chef who studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa before making rounds at some of Toronto’s top fine-dining restaurants, according to the THG’s Hot Chicken website.

In 2008, while working under Michael Bonacini at the highly-regarded restaurant Canoe, Syed experienced an accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down, the website continues.

While his life changed forever, he didn’t lose his love and passion for food. In 2011, he swapped his car for a shiny food truck and began building his “halal fried chicken empire.”

Menu items at THG’s Hot Chicken include hot chicken wings, Nashville hot chicken and crispy chicken. Sides include fries, a black-eyed pea salad, red-skin potato salad and a “dirty” mac ‘n’ cheese.

The opening date of the Erin Mills location has not yet been announced.
