Huge traffic problems stemming from Monday evenings tragic highway collision delayed festivities a bit but once the heartbeat of the drums was heard the National Indigenous People’s Day celebrations at Pickering’s Esplanade Park became an event to remember.

The big drums were reverberating through the downtown park and there were stories to be heard, childrens’ activities, a chance to shop indigenous artisans and art; lots of art.

Oshawa’s Livingroom Community Art Studio was there, and founder Mary Krohnert thanked everyone who attended to make art and enjoy the celebration.

“It was a truly beautiful day, and we are so grateful to have been invited to witness, learn and appreciate! Huge thanks to our volunteer and student placement team as well, for creating such a warm and welcoming environment.”
