Spring has sprung and while the forecast for the next week or so isn’t perfect, the warm weather is here to stay (for now) and with it comes a beloved tradition: Outdoor movie nights.

Recently, the City of Mississauga announced that residents and visitors can sit down, relax and enjoy some popcorn while watching a wild robot, a superhero who takes the form of a dog-human hybrid, some despicable animated creatures and, of course, something to do with the video game/media franchise Minecraft.

All of these movies (and more) are slated to hit the big screen this summer at Celebration Square in Mississauga’s downtown core.

The wildly popular Celebration Square Movie Nights, again presented by INsauga.com, will return to the huge outdoor space on June 19 and take place on Thursday nights until the end of summer.

The Wild Robot will kick things off, and after that, a number of family-friendly films will play throughout the summer until Sept. 4. City staff said there will be no screenings on July 3, July 10 and July 24 due to other events.

What city officials describe as the largest outdoor movie screenings in Mississauga are open to all ages, admission is free and the venue is accessible. The films run from about 8-10 p.m., with a pre-show starting at 7:30 p.m.

“Families can enjoy their favourite movies, from action-packed adventures to animated classics, all under the stars,” city officials said. “Movie Nights also offer an interactive pre-show featuring special giveaways, courtesy of Square One.”

Here’s the 2025 lineup:

  • Thursday, June 19 — The Wild Robot
  • June 26 — Sonic the Hedgehog 3
  • July 17 — Orion and the Dark
  • July 31 — Wicked: Part One
  • Aug. 7 — Dog Man
  • Aug. 14 — Despicable Me 4
  • Aug. 21 — IF
  • Aug. 28 — A Minecraft Movie
  • Sept. 4 — Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

For those who need specific accommodations, call 311 at least 48 hours in advance of the event to make the request, city officials say.
