A major player in Toronto’s Thai food scene is opening up a new location outside the city.
Recently, Pii Nong, a sprawling 10,000-square-foot, two-level Midtown Toronto Thai restaurant, market, and spa, announced on social media that it will open another outpost in the GTA.
“Tell us in the comments which Ontario town or city you’d love to see us in next,” the Pii Nong team teased on Instagram recently.
It turns out, whether decided internally or by a social media committee, the new spot is set to launch in Oakville.
A Pii Nong representative told yourcitywithIN.com that the new location will open this spring in downtown Oakville at 266 Lakeshore Rd. E.
As for details on the open date — for the time being — things remain a little up in the air.
Pii Nong’s journey in the GTA has been one of expansion and change: they initially arrived on the scene at Bayview Avenue in Leaside — now Chon Modern Thai Cuisine — and their primary Pii Nong location is now in Midtown Toronto.
Upon the opening of the Midtown location, head chef and co-owner Pii “Nana” Nong (of the restaurant’s namesake) earned praise for her street food-inspired menu.
Fellow co-owner Tom Ha told yourcityithIN.com that his multi-level flagship location was designed to create “something so insane, so crazy, so big that people would be like, ‘Are you sure you can pull this off?’”
Whether this mandate carries over to the new Oakville location, time will tell.
However, if Pii Nong is any reference point, guests can expect traditional Thai staples like pad Thai, pad kee mao, pad see ew and khao soi and more unique offerings as well.
For those needing a little extra kick to make the trip out to Oakville, the current Pii Nong location has also made quite a splash for having incredibly ‘Instagramable’ teddy bear drinks that feature either mango juice or milk tea with endearing frozen teddy bear treats as garnish.
More details on the new location are expected in the coming weeks.
