A new hotel is slated to open in a changing Toronto neighbourhood.
Nomas, a 17-room boutique hotel, will open soon at 561 Bloor St. near Bathurst Station.
The ground floor space was home to an Ali Baba’s restaurant for several years, a Hakka Chinese eatery and then a cafe until 2020.
The building was up for sale and vacant after the cafe closed.
But the sign is now up for the new hotel, which will also house Bellis, a Japanese and Italian-inspired dining bar. The bar promises to be “lively,” serving up drinks and bites every day, Nomas said on Instagram.

Queen beds are standard in every room, as are walk-in tiled showers, and the hotel boasts “seamless tech throughout” the building.
Guests can get cafe-style coffee.
“No more Nespresso machines, (there will be a) daily Cafe program run by expert baristas,” Nomas said.
Nomas is set to open on March 1, according to a story in Toronto Life.
The Bloor and Bathurst area has changed over the last decade or so. The huge discount store, Honest Ed’s, closed in 2016 and was torn down between 2017 and 2018 to make way for a mixed-use development.
A new community, Mirvish Village, with over 890 purpose-built rental homes, a music venue and food hall and a new public park is well underway, with rental units up for lease now.
The new park is opening this spring.
