A Montreal smoked meat pop-up is coming to Toronto this month.

For one day only, Montreal’s iconic Schwartz’s Deli is featured in a special collaboration.

Schwartz’s Deli’s iconic smoked meat will be featured in two dishes—bolognese pasta and poutine—created by WeCook executive chef Gabriel Drapeau (former executive chef of Joe Beef Group). WeCook is a ready-to-eat meal delivery service.

Drapeau, trained in French cuisine, loves reinventing dishes by infusing them with unusual cooking techniques to give them new life, according to WeCook.

The classic retro Avenue Diner at 222 Davenport Rd. hosts the pop-up on Wednesday, July 30 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The dishes are $5 each.

Schwartz’s Deli, a Montreal landmark, has been serving smoked meat in its original location since 1928. The deli was founded by Reuben Schwartz, a Jewish immigrant from Romania.

Their preservative-free smoked meat is made on location using a secret blend of locally produced fine herbs and spices. It is marinated for 10 days, smoked overnight, steamed all day and sliced by hand on demand.

Aside from the Montreal deli, Schwartz’s Smoked Meat pouches are available at Costco.

The meals at this WeCook pop-up will be available to order on WeCook’s website starting next week for delivery beginning Aug. 18 for a limited time.
