A major restaurant chain has closed its location in a Toronto mall after 18 years.
Casual dining restaurant Moxies in Yorkdale Shopping Centre will shut down this weekend.
On Monday, Moxies announced it will be closing the Yorkdale Shopping Centre location on Jan. 17.
Since opening in February 2007, the Yorkdale location has served over two million guests, Moxies said in a press release.
“While it’s always difficult to close a restaurant, we remain proud of our team’s role in creating memorable experiences for those who have visited our long-standing Yorkdale location,” Joanne Forrester, president and chief operating officer of Moxies, said. “This closure is not an end but a step toward our continued evolution, allowing us to focus on future growth opportunities. We are deeply grateful for the loyalty and support of our guests.”
Forrester thanked staff members past and present who provided guests with “the premium hospitality Moxies is known for.”
“Together, we’ve built something exceptional and carry that spirit into our next chapter,” she said. “We hope that everyone will have the chance to join us for one last time before we finish our final service on January 17, 2026.”

Moxies began as a small deli and diner in Calgary, Alberta, in 1986. The chain joined Northland Properties in 1998 and transformed into a contemporary, premium casual dining restaurant and lounge, according to the Northland website.
Northland Properties Corporation owns an NHL team, the Dallas Stars, two ski resorts, over 175 restaurants, 66 hotels and other mixed-use projects.
There are over 58 Moxies locations across North America, including 19 in Ontario. There are plans to reopen a Moxies Barrie in a new location at Park Place in 2026, the company said.
