If you’re a fan of horror with a bite of dark comedy, you’ll want to keep an eye on the next chapter of a breakout thriller, now filming across Ontario with some big-name stars joining the cast.
Ready or Not: Here I Come, the follow-up to 2019’s genre-blending hit Ready or Not, is arriving six years after the original.
Directed by Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the film once again stars Samara Weaving as Grace.
As part of a Searchlight Pictures production, principal photography began April 21, with filming underway in Toronto, Oshawa and Dundas, including scenes at Columbia College.
The first movie introduced audiences to Grace, a new bride whose wedding night turns into a deadly game when her wealthy in-laws hunt her as part of a violent family tradition.
The original film earned praise for its mix of horror, satire and survival suspense, grossing over $57 million worldwide on a $6 million budget.
The sequel reunites writers Guy Busick (Scream, Abigail) and R. Christopher Murphy (Castle Rock) and is expected to maintain the same sharp tone.
Joining Weaving are Kathryn Newton (Freaky), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Elijah Wood (The Lord of the Rings), Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand and David Cronenberg.
Key crew includes returning director of photography Brett Jutkiewicz, production designer Andrew Stearn, and costume designer Avery Plewes. New additions include editor Jay Prychidny (Beetlejuice Beetlejuice) and sound mixer Thomas Hayek (Thanksgiving).
Filming is expected to continue through the spring, but if you’re dying to know what happens next, you’ll have to wait as plot details are still under wraps and no release date has been announced.
