Long-standing (and much-loved) Chinese restaurant closes in Mississauga

They say that all good things must come to an end.

But some endings hurt more than others.

After years of serving some of the best Chinese cuisine in the city (and certainly the best dim sum), Sam Woo BBQ Restaurant has closed its doors for good.

The operators of the Eglinton and Mavis-area restaurant recently posted a notice on their door informing diners that the long-standing, beloved resto will be closing as of Friday, Jan. 31.

“To all our patrons, after many years of serving this community we are closing our doors for the last time on Friday, January 31st, 2020,” the message reads.

“Thank you for supporting us all these years. Cheers.”

The closure is absolutely devastating for dim sum lovers, as Sam Woo was known for its excellent selection of dumplings and its absolutely exquisite fried squid.

The restaurant also catered to both dim sum aficionados and novices by pairing carts with menus, so no one ever had to worry about missing a pan-fried radish cake or having spring rolls snatched away. The staff was always pleasant and attentive, making the dining experience all the more special.

On a personal note, Sam Woo was the site of my third date with my now-husband and even though we no longer live in the area, we compare each and every dim sum joint to the legendary BBQ resto.

Cheers to you, Sam Woo–and thanks for the memories.
