Japanese convenience store vibes featured at Toronto ramen spot

A local ramen spot is brining Japense convinience store structure to Toronto.
Konbini – the Japanese term for convenience stores – has been a major part of the country’s regional snack culture for decades.
Considering these konbini are vastly different than corner stores in North America, often featuring a huge selection of pre-prepared food and snacks, Kintom Ramen, a local GTA ramen spot, is looking to bring some of that charm here at home.
As a result, all locations are now taking part in what has been dubbed ‘Summer Ramencation.’
This new summer menu is designed to be a late-night favourite, as it offers a ‘value ramen,’ echoing those found at konbinis, while also allowing guests to stack other convenience-style snacks, like gyozas, fries, and a huge selection of drinks.
“We’re excited to share a piece of Japanese food culture with our guests and create a fun, accessible way for them to experience the spirit of Konbini without leaving their community,” Alan De Luna, Senior Marketing Manager for Kinton Ramen’s parent group, said in an official statement.
While some may be wondering if it is just convenience store ‘vibes’ that are ruling this menu, Kinton is making sure it also matches the same impact on yoru wallet, as stacking any of the menu items will never break more than $15.
“Konbini culture is such a unique part of Japan’s food landscape because it shows that convenience doesn’t have to mean compromising on quality. It’s about creating everyday food experiences that are delicious, accessible and thoughtfully prepared,” added De Luna.
Kinton Ramen’s new summer program is only running for a limited time; after that, a plane ticket may be your only way to get authentic konbini service.
