“We all scream for ice cream” is no longer just a famous children’s rhyme. A new horror film will be shooting in Toronto soon and is about to turn summer’s sweetest treat into a source of pure fear.
Ice Cream Man, written, directed and produced by Eli Roth (Thanksgiving, Hostel), is set to begin filming on Aug. 11.
The story follows an idyllic summer town thrown into chaos when a local ice cream man begins serving kids frozen desserts with a horrifying twist. Described as both disturbing and surreal, the film blends suburban nostalgia with psychological horror.
Not to be confused with The Ice Cream Man (1995), a dark comedy starring Clint Howard about a vendor who uses human flesh in his recipes, or the 2024 short film of the same name, Roth’s version is an original concept more than two decades in the making.
In an interview with Variety.com, Roth calls his idea “the most terrifying and insane film to date,” adding that earlier drafts were once considered too extreme for studios to back.
It’s the first project from Roth’s newly launched studio, The Horror Section.
Roth is also working with Media Capital Technologies, which previously backed studio releases like Saw X and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
Filming for Ice Cream Man is set to wrap by Sept. 5, though exact shooting locations haven’t been revealed. Whether any Ontario landscapes appear on screen is something audiences will have to tune in to find out.
As for who will be joining the cast, nothing has been confirmed yet, though a wide theatrical release is expected between late spring and early summer of 2026.
