Huge department store reveals opening date for brand new Toronto location

After teasing shoppers for several agonizing days, a huge Canadian department store that began its journey into Ontario in 2016 has just announced the official opening date of its brand-new Yorkdale location.
Today, La Maison Simons, a Quebec-based retailer known for offering a plethora of affordable, mid-range and high-end clothing brands, announced that its newest location will open its doors on Thursday, Aug. 14.
The store will be the 18th for the homegrown brand, but the third in Ontario.
“Our 18th store in Canada will be officially opening its doors at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre,” operators wrote on social media.
Simons, which many say will help fill the void left by Hudson’s Bay (which shuttered all of its stores this year), opened its first Ontario location in Mississauga’s Square One Shopping Centre close to a decade ago.
Early last year, the brand announced plans to open two new locations in two of Toronto’s key shopping centres: Yorkdale and the Eaton Centre.
In a news release issued last year, the company said the new stores represented a substantial investment of more than $75 million and would generate approximately 400 new employment opportunities.
The company stated that the new stores, once open, would increase the brand’s overall annual sales (as of January 2024) by more than $650 million, a 15 per cent increase.
In the news release, Simons said the Yorkdale store will offer 118,000 square feet of space spread out over two floors. Much like its other Canadian locations, the new store will offer its well-known Contemporaine, Twik, and Djab brands.

The upcoming Eaton Centre location will span more than 110,000 square feet spread over three floors.
That location is slated to open later this year.
