While Toronto is well-known for celebrity sightings, stargazers typically have the most luck spotting their favourite artists during the annual Toronto International Film Festival.
Now in its 50th year, TIFF–initially dubbed the Toronto Festival of Festivals in 1976–is set to kick off tomorrow (Sept. 4) and bring 291 films (209 features, six classics, 10 primetime, and 66 shorts) to the city.
The 10-day event, which allows film industry insiders and aficionados to see everything from theatrical releases and streaming service darlings to avant-garde domestic and international films before they become available worldwide, typically attracts big-name actors, directors, writers, and producers — and this year will be no different.
Today, TIFF said that big names expected to attend the festival this year include Angelina Jolie, Keanu Reeves, Matthew McConaughey, Sydney Sweeney, Ryan Reynolds, Natalie Portman, Emily Blunt, Daniel Craig, Paul Mescal, Mia Goth, Steven Soderbergh, Claire Denis, Baz Luhrmann, Anurag Kashyap, Charli xcx, J Balvin, Method Man, Jodie Foster, Idris Elba, Lee Byung Hun, Dustin Hoffman, Ralph Fiennes, Riz Ahmed, Brian Cox, Kerry Washington, Josh O’Connor, Scarlett Johansson, Seal, Park Chan-wook, and Dwayne Johnson.
