A new grocery store will open in a “music-inspired” east-end Toronto development.
The new grocery store will be on the ground floor of the ROQ City development at Queen Street East and Ontario Street in Moss Park, according to Retail Insider. The development, currently under construction, includes 33 and 24-storey residential towers with retail space at street level.
“Located on Queen Street East among a hip arts community, trendy boutiques and intimate restaurants, ROQ City is a unique music-inspired retail destination that marches to the beat of its own drum,” the developer, Tricon Residential states on its website.
A Food Basics grocery store will open at the base of Tower B at 261 Queen St. E. in the development, according to a story in Retail Insider. The store will span approximately 33,000 square feet.
Food Basics is a Canadian supermarket chain owned by Metro. The chain typically has lower prices than Metro or Loblaws stores.
Shoppers Drug Mart also has space in the new development, Tricon states on its website.
Tricon notes the project will include 79,000 square of retail, the two towers, 33 and 24-storeys tall, will be connected by a 320-stall parking garage with designated non-residential spaces for office and retail. There is also space for a half-acre public park.
The development is expected to have a total of 859 rental apartments.
