$45 million has been put aside to turn an Ontario town into a waterfront paradise with a massive new hotel.
As part of an ongoing revitalization project, the Sunray Group will launch construction on a brand new Marriott Hotel location in Wasaga Beach in early 2026.
The hotel, amongst other beachfront amenities, is part of a collective effort by both the province and Sunray Group to turn the town into a new hotspot for entertainment and tourism.
According to representatives, Wasaga Beach is home to the longest freshwater beach in the world, which attracts two million visitors every year.
“Today, Sunray Group has confirmed they will build a Marriott hotel next to our spectacular beachfront, including shops, cafes, restaurants, and more. This historic, $45 million investment will complement smaller, family-owned inns and cottages, and restaurants in our community,” said Brian Smith, Mayor of Wasaga Beach, in an official statement.
Sunray Group isn’t the only player investing in Wasaga Beach, as last week, the province announced it will invest an additional $40 million in funds to help fortify the municipality and its infrastructure alongside the hotel project.
In its first phase, the Marriott hotel project will feature 120 rooms, a restaurant, convention facilities, a spa area, shops, and more.
Sunray has also indicated that they plan to invest further in full development for all four phases of the project as it moves forward.
An additional $1.5 million is also going towards the construction of a Festival Square near the beachfront, built for special events and concerts throughout the year.
“Sunray Group of Hotels is proud to be investing in the community of Wasaga Beach – the longest freshwater beach in the world. I have a strong connection to this beautiful community,” said Ray Gupta, CEO of Sunray, in an official statement.
Scheduled to break ground on Beach Area 1-a, a 5.18-acre slice of town-owned property, the project is anticipated to overhaul the town of Wasaga Beach into a new global hotspot for travel and leisure.
