Celebrity chef backed seafood restaurant closed in Toronto

A Toronto restaurant backed by a celebrity chef has seemingly closed in under a year.

Bar Clams — a creative culinary endeavor from chefs Matty Matheson and Coulson Armstrong — opened in November of last year to much buzz, as it tapped into Matheson’s roots in Atlantic Canada and promised genuine maritime flavours.

However, as of today, it has been listed as “permanently closed” on Google, marking its closure in a little under a year since it opened its doors.

Built around a cozy diner design, the location featured Atlantic Canadian cuisine built around dishes like oysters, clams, seafood platters, and fish and chips.

Mattheson, a hometown hero who refined his craft in Toronto kitchens, is also behind several other major dining locations in the GTA, including Prime Seafood Palace, Maker Pizza, and Matty’s Patty’s in Toronto and Rizzo’s House of Parm in Fort Erie.

He is also behind the upcoming massive 9,500 square foot restaurant scheduled for Hamilton’s new arena, the Iron Cow Public House, set to open later this year.

While there has been no official word relayed on the restaurant’s official Instagram, based on Google’s current status, it can be assumed that this freighter for all things seafood has set sail into the sunset in Toronto.
