A highly anticipated Japanese fusion restaurant appears to have permanently closed about a year and a half after opening in Mississauga.

Bonsai Asian Bistro & Bar opened in December 2021 at 60 Lakeshore Rd. E. in Port Credit after having been in the works for several years.

The concept was an upscale, casual dining experience with food and beverages inspired by Japan and Southeast Asia.

Unique entrees included Wagyu Shabu Shabu and Udon Carbonera, a dish of Udon noodles with creamy egg and layers of parmesan cheese, edamame and pancetta.

There was a street-side patio and elegant interior.

The restaurant received high praise with many good reviews on Google.

“Absolutely lovely place to dine,” one person wrote in a review about two months ago. “The food was AMAZING and the service was quick and polite.”

But about a month ago, over the August long weekend, people started commenting on Google that the restaurant was closed. And it is now marked as permanently closed on Google.

Several people said they were disappointed to find the restaurant unexpectedly closed.

Attempts to contact the restaurant were unsuccessful. The listed phone number is no longer connected and the website is down.

There are no messages on the Instagram page indicating why the restaurant had closed. The last post was in April.
