CLOSURE: Beloved sandwich shop closes after 70 years in Toronto

A cherished neighbourhood sandwich shop has closed in an iconic Toronto area.

San Fransesco Foods, an iconic staple of Little Italy’s Clinton Street, has shut down after 70 years in operation.

The announcement came via the shop’s official Instagram account, where it was stated that the location would cease operations permanently, as of yesterday, Dec. 21.

The location was known for its pizzas, salads and of course, its authentic Italian sandwiches.

“We are endlessly grateful for the community that made this place so special. Thank you for the love, loyalty, and memories that will live on forever,” read the caption attached to the post.

Those who hold the location in their hearts, however, won’t have to wait too long to experience the iconic taste tied to San Fransesco Foods, as the post promised the location would return at the 2026 CNE next summer, as a vendor at the iconic food hall.

Whether any brick-and-mortar storefronts bearing the San Fransesco name will emerge in the future remains to be determined.
