Top booking platform lists best place to dine-out for New Year's Day in Toronto

One of Canada’s top players in restaurant bookings has unveiled Toronto’s best spots open for New Year’s Day.

OpenTable, a platform commonly used for reservations at dining spots around the country, as well as reviews, recently released this shortlist based on user feedback and the traffic of Toronto’s dining community in 2025.

For those who have shaken off the previous night’s celebrations and are ready to ring in the new year properly, it turns out that Toronto has several lavish spaces open for the occasion.

First on OpenTable’s list is Prequel & Co. Apothecary, one of Toronto’s most buzzed-about cocktail bars.

While official correspondence from OpenTable states that it will be open for dining on the first day of 2026, its website provides different information, so it may be best to double-check.

Next is Rumeli, one of the city’s heaviest hitters for Turkish cuisine.

If you are looking for somewhere to take your pals from the night proper to kick off the new year with a sublime feast, this is the place.

Next on the list is a Kensington favourite, The Cottage Cheese.

This nook for some of the best Indian food in the city is the perfect place to grab a spicy lunch after some likely New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Shifting gears, for those who want to keep those lavish celebrations going, there’s The Playbook Commons.

This steakhouse, built on Italian-American classics, is perfect for those wanting some of the finer things to mark the start of their 2026.

As for savoury and spicy options, downtown’s Le Lert Thai will also be open on New Year’s Day, according to OpenTable.

Closing things out is Oretta.

While many in the city will likely be spending their New Year’s Eve on King West, those willing to make a U-turn the following day will be treated to some of the most dynamic modern takes on Italian in the city — the perfect place for a chill dinner with friends to welcome a new year of possibilities.
