Another one bites the dust struggling to survive in the Canadian market.

A popular retail shop is about to close its doors permanently across all of Ontario, including stores in Mississauga and is letting customers know that their gift cards will be expiring too.

Bed, Bath and Beyond are set to close down stores Canada-wide and are reminding customers to use any gift cards, coupons or points they may still be holding on to, as those payments will no longer be accepted starting Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

A sales representative from the Bed, Bath and Beyond Whitby location told insauga.com that, “The websites are now offline to shoppers and they must visit a retailer in person to make any purchases. All gift cards and points will be honoured before the expiration date.” (Mar. 8)

Along with the recent announcement of the luxury department store Nordstrom preparing to shut down, a month earlier Bed, Bath and Beyond filed for bankruptcy and were granted permission by the Superior Court to stop all operations at its 54 Canadian locations.

According to court documents, “The Bed Bath & Beyond Group has been in financial difficulty for the past several years, suffering significant net losses since 2018.”

The company will be liquidating all of its Canadian properties and terminate 387 full-time and 1,038 part-time employees.

All items will be markdown on clearance and the stores will remain open during regular hours until the decision is made to close its doors one last time.
