A popular sushi restaurant in Downtown Hamilton announced this week that they will be closing permanently this weekend.
The Paper Crane, located at 163 John St. S., told customers via Instagram on Tuesday (Feb. 25) that their final day of operations will be this Sunday (March 1).
“We opened Paper Crane as a passion project because we couldn’t bare a world without Simon’s sushi in it,” the Instagram post says. “But, we found the model just wasn’t sustainable for us.”
They end the post by thanking their customers and neighbours in Corktown.
Many Instagram followers expressed their shock and dismay at the announcement.
“Very sad to hear this. I took my family there on my birthday to show them sushi done right. We all had the omakase. A meal to remember. Thanks for the memories,” one user wrote.
“Noooooo I only just discovered recently that this is THE BEST sushi I’ve had in Hamilton. Now I don’t know where I will go?” another worried.
The Paper Crane was recently featured at No. 1 on Inthehammer’s Top 5 places in Hamilton for sushi.
The renowned Chef Simon previously owned Matsuri Sushi in Dundas which closed a little more than a year ago.
