‘Incredible Hulk’ actor and son of a Brooklyn cop sworn in as honourary police officer in 2014

Feeling like a superhero today? Hamilton Police has one in the service, even if it’s purely symbolic.

It’s been nearly ten years since Hamilton Police welcomed the angry Avenger to the force with the swearing-in of actor Lou Ferrigno – the original Incredible Hulk from 1970s television screens – as an honourary police officer.

It’s Crime Stoppers Month and Hamilton Police shred a message on X today that Ferrigno, who also serves as an honourary police constable in California and Ohio, carries the badge number #8477 (TIPP) “for his exceptional work with Crime Stoppers.”

The former Mr. Universe (and, for a brief time, a Toronto Argonaut defensive lineman, though he didn’t appear in any games) and the son of a New York City cop, Ferrigno earned the honour in early October 2014, shortly before an appearance at the Hamilton Comic Convention.

The Hamilton ceremony was the first time the actor was given the honour in Canada.

The 6’4” 260-pound Ferrigno made a living for decades throwing bad guys around as the Hulk and later, Hercules, and actually did some police work in the U.S. as part of his honourary duties south of the border.

“Not all heroes wear capes,” Hamilton Police tweeted. “Sometimes, heroes wear a badge!”
