Hamilton rock stars Arkells will be back on stage to kick off summer with a doubleheader weekend of shows June 21-22 at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto.
It’s been nearly three years since the Arkells played the venue at Ontario Place – the first weekend back after the pandemic-induced shutdown of all live concerts – and the band promises to “pull out all the stops” to make the shows as memorable as possible.
“The first shows after nobody had been allowed to attend a concert in quite some time, they were the most emotional and euphoric shows we’ve ever played,” the band said in announcing the new gigs, which they said will be the “biggest party of the summer.”
Joining the Arkells on the Friday night will be JUNO-winning and Grammy-nominated pop dup Tegan and Sara, as well as Adam Melchor, who will be opening both shows.
On Saturday night Grouplove will join the Arkells on the bill.
The band, which is named after Arkells Street in the Westdale neighbourhood in Hamilton – near McMaster University, where all the band members attended – has released nine albums, from Jackson Square (2008) to Laundry Pile (2023).
Four of those albums have gone gold, with 2014’s High Noon certified platinum.
With a deep catalogue, the Arkells promises to play the hits at the Toronto shows, as well as “some surprises for the day ones.”
Tickets for both shows go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
