Restaurants that closed in Toronto in July left major voids in communities across the city. A cornerstone of Chinatown, a Michelin-level restaurant serving tasting menus and a popular healthy restaurant all closed down this past month.

Sweetie Pie

While Sweetie Pie is a chain with multiple locations in Toronto, it hurt to see the Harbord Village outpost of the brand go. The shop makes all kinds of pies in classic varieties like blueberry and apple as well as more creative kinds like soy tikka masala.

The closure was due to the landlord unfortunately more than doubling the rent, meaning the business could only stay in the space until the end of July.

Chinatown lost a major institution when this restaurant closed after decades in business. They were known for their variety of traditional dishes including barbecue and dim sum.

The restaurant was also known for being the setting for scenes in some big movies like xXx and Miss Sloane.

The announcement that this Michelin-starred restaurant would be closing in July sent shockwaves through the local hospitality community. The restaurant in Thornhill was known for their elegant and innovative tasting menus.

The team behind the restaurant announced that they were closing down the restaurant in order to focus on their farming project.

Health nuts have one less place to grab a smoothie, bowl or sandwich with the closure of this restaurant on Queen West.

The owner behind the concept is also looking to sell the Roncesvalles location of the restaurant.

Capone’s

Tucked away in a little space in the Lithuanian Centre near Dundas West station, this place served cocktails and provided a space for local performers.

The bar took to social media to announce that they were suddenly closing down in July. Before Capone’s, the space was home to a business called Bar Lokys for decades.

Come See Me

While this Little Italy bar is gone as you know it, the team behind it have replaced it with a new concept called Bar Serene.

You can still get cocktails and an Asian-inspired menu here, but the space looks a little different with all the colourful street art removed from the walls and a totally revamped interior. The concept was suddenly changed near the end of July.

Pour House

This pub in the Annex is now permanently closed as you know it, but the team behind the space have been hard at work putting together a new concept for the address that focuses on Italian comfort food like pizza, fresh pasta and cocktails.
