A nature centre in Hamilton that was part of a family of centres has just closed its doors.
Little Ray’s Nature Centres has locations in Ottawa and in Syracuse in the United States. They once had a location in Hamilton which just closed down.
The history of the centres stretches back to the year 2000 with the opening of a reptile zoo. From there, Little Ray’s grew over the course of 25 years into an exotic animal rescue with multiple locations.
“After much thought and consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our Hamilton Nature Centre,” reads a post on social media.
“While this chapter comes to a close, we want to assure you that the heart of our mission beats stronger than ever. Our organization is thriving, evolving, and growing in exciting new directions–especially by finding innovative ways to connect people with nature on an even larger scale at various museums and zoological facilities throughout North America.”

The post goes on to say that the Ottawa and Syracuse locations will remain open, and that they’re going to try to find a way to put on annual temporary exhibits in the Hamilton area.
“For the animals currently in our care at this facility, we want you to know that each and every one of them will be treated with the utmost respect and love during this transition,” reads the post.
“Some will remain with us at our other locations in Ottawa and Syracuse, and for those who will not be staying, we are dedicated to finding them new, appropriate homes, where they will continue to receive exceptional care.”
Although the Hamilton centre has now closed, they’re still doing private tours and offsite bookings.
The last day Little Ray’s Nature Centre in Hamilton was open for general admission was April 14.
