Toronto just got a new grocery store in one of the most unlikely places: an old historic post office.
1117 Meats & Pantry is a specialty grocery store that just opened in a former post office with a history that stretches back to the early 1900s. It’s actually even a city landmark with official heritage site designation, originally built in 1902 by architects David Ewart and Samuel G. Curry, opening on May 21, 1903 as Postal Station C.

It was only retired as a post office in 2020, and has sat vacant for the past five years up until this point. Event as 1117 Meats & Pantry, the space has retained a lot of historical charm with big arched windows and lots of exposed brick, but modern touches like contemporary lighting bring the space into current times.
The store stocks all kinds of grocery staples as well as imported products from around the world and local products. That includes fresh produce, meats, deli items and frozen foods.

They’ve got beef, pork, seafood, steak, fruit and veggie trays, porchetta skewers, burger patties, baked goods, coffees, condiments and beverages. As for frozen foods, they’ve got options like butter chicken, mac n’ cheese and dumplings.
